Beat Latino with Catalina Maria Johnson

Nuestra música: past, present and future

Download this Episode of Beat Latino (MP3)

We had the most amazing time at the Folk Alliance International conference, and had a chance to experience marvelous Latine folk music. We heard everything from Appalachian and llanero combinations to Mariachi to Folk Pop and ballads in Kaqchikel, an ancestral Mayan language. We enjoyed the participation of musicians with roots in Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panamá, Spain, and the USA. Here’s a recap of the music we heard, including versions of songs from a legendary, spontaneous, organically evolving and joyful jam which laid out exemplars of a Latine Songbook. Enjoy!
